Your Small Business BFF

I don’t want a billion dollar enterprise, and I don’t want to be a CEO.

I just want to put beautiful things out into the world, spend time with my loved ones whenever I want, and experience all that this life has in store for me.

I only get one life, one chance, and I’m claiming it as mine.

If this sounds a little familiar, you're in the right place.

I'm Ashlynn, and I'm here to be your small business BFF, if you'll have me.

What is a Nontrepreneur?

A Nontrepreneur is someone who wants to be free to live life on their own terms, using their artistic talents to bring happiness into other people's lives.

The goal is to make money from art to fund your lifestyle, but not to be burdened with the stress of a corporate-style business.

We don't dream of working, and we wanted to get away from all of that in the first place.

That's why we're here now.

Who Am I?

The Nontrepreneur Your Small Business BFF

I am a revenue cycle manager by day and a nontrepreneur the rest of the time (nights, weekends, in my sleep).

My arts and craft experience includes:

  • Took art classes in middle & high school a million years ago
  • Beauty product reviewer and content creator
  • Makeup artist (for photography)
  • Photographer (product and portrait photos)
  • Jeweler (wire and crystal work)
  • Baker (specializing in cookies and brownies)
  • Digital artist (digital illustration)
  • Stationery creator (stickers, notepads, notebooks, branding)
  • Apparel designer (HTV, DTF)

My greatest passions include learning and teaching. I thoroughly enjoy learning how to do new things and teaching others as well.

I'm here to share my knowledge and experience with you.

How can I help you?

Some of the most frequent questions I get asked are:

Can you show me how to do that?

How did you make that?

Where did you get that?

Can you break it down in steps?

One or more of these scenarios might be the what you're experiencing:

  • You either already know how to do the craft, or you know what craft you want to take on, but you're not very familiar with the administrative and business side of turning that craft into a small business.
  • You want to make your hobby into something more, but you don't know how to set up a website, how to make listings, how to price your products, or how to keep track of all the financial aspects of everything to pay your business taxes.
  • Maybe you need help with the craft. You might have an idea and not know exactly how to go about it or how to get started.
  • You want to make stickers or a notebook for your shop. Yes, there are a million and one videos on how to do it, but you need someone to actually walk you through each step. You're a hands-on, walk-me-through-it-while-I-do-it kind of learner (so am I).
  • You know what you want to make, but you don't know how to get the materials or where to get the materials and how you would go about testing without wasting a lot of money. Small businesses spend a lot of resources and money researching supplies and manufacturers, but you don't have a lot to spare and need help cutting out the waste.
  • You have a customer base, and they want merch, but you're not comfortable tackling that project (too busy, too anxious, too much), and you'd love for someone to do that for you.

Whether you choose to do this part-time or full-time, this is where I can help you.

Some aspects of small business I can help you with:

Startup

  • Business plan (not that scary)
  • Elevator pitch (don't tell me you don't sing when you're alone in the elevator)

Administrative Aspects

  • Scheduling, time-blocking, managing priorities
  • Finances, taxes (in small chunks, easy to manage)
  • Money management (restraint, a lot of it)
  • Legal aspects (things a lot of people don't consider)

Setup

  • Branding (not just your logo)
  • Shop format and themes (moodboards help a lot here)
  • Mailing list (wut iz dis - an important asset to your business)

Shop Management

  • Research and development (thinking, testing, more testing, spending money on testing)
  • Product design (see above)
  • Supplies (shop smarter not harder)
  • Packaging (make it look professional, but don't break the bank)
  • Shipping (cost efficiency matters)
  • Pricing (if you can't pay yourself, how are you going to eat)

Social Media - pick one to focus on

Monetization Options - make money in other ways aka diversify income streams
